Sin Heng Claypot Bak Kut Teh Let me start off this post with the picture of my first time trying this. Doesn't look that appetizing? Wellllllll it's really good!! I've stayed in the East side all my life and I've never tasted the food here in my life! I'm not much of a meat eater and I don't really like..... Black food. No racist stuff intended but it's true. I don't like black Chinese mushrooms, i don't like braised meat, sauce, egg whatever, I don't know if it's a coincidece but I hate it! I love Bak Kut teh and I'm a GREAT fan of the white soup one. (ng ah sio at Rangoon road is the best!) But my love for white Bak Kut teh has been criticized by MANY of my friends and some of them are 1) you don't know Bak Kut teh at all 2) white soup is just pepper soup! Blah blah all that. So last week I decided to go over for supper and OH MY GOSH. IT IS GOOOOOODDDDDD. All of the Claypot dishes were served when the liquid was still boiling!!! It's so good that I went there the second night to have dinner! First night Prime ribs clay pot soup Soup, slightly peppery but yet there's a different taste to it! I'm not sure if it's the supposed-black soup taste but i needed a little time to get used to. And when I did, I couldn't stop slurping! The ribs were so soft and tender that the meat would just peel(slide) off the rib! That amazing! Also, comparing it to ng ah sio, the meat is so so so much nicer! The meat nearer to the bone at NAS's tough and I normally don't touch it. So I would just chew the soft meat off. But at SH, it's soft and I just eat the whole thing! Yums (must deep it into the black sauce) Claypot pork(meat and insides) We chose to only have lean meat cause I don't eat the insides. IT IS SO SO GOOD! The sauce that was cooked together with the pork is SO FRAGRANT. Honestly, I can't describe it well as I'm not a food blogger but it's really... Balanced. Not too salty, not too sweet, not too anything it's so good. And the serving of the sauce is generous too so mix it in with your rice! Preserved vegetables - Not a big hoohoo, no big deal, not outstanding but a must when having BKT Second night Specialty pork ribs soup Okay, gotta be frank, I forgot the name of it but there's only 2-3 kinds of soup. There's bean curd skin, the insides of the pig, ribs and some mushroom. I love bean curd skin but I don't eat the insides or the mushrooms. The soup is richer and more fragrant than the one with only the ribs though. YUM Sambal kangkong THIS ONE. It's Really good! I love vegetables so I may be a little biased but I think I finished 4/5 of the plate myself! There's the 'wok smell' to it and it's just so good! You know how good kangkongs are right? This is definitely one of them. And they not stingy with portion ok! Claypot Prawn glass noodle When it was being served, I was a little disappointed honestly. It looked soupy, exactly like my bkt. But I was wrong! The glass noodle then absorbed the goodness of the soup and it tasted rly rly good!! There's this peppery taste to it and I believe that the soup based used is the same. So imagine a good bkt soup with the sweetness of prawns and pepper all absorbed into your glass noodles! Plus point, the prawns are really fresh. Youtiao - oos for first night but also not a big hoohoo, isn't crispy or anything. Abit too oily too. NAS's youtiao is a lot better. Claypot pork - Again, didn't fail me, the standard was the same! Preserved veg - meh again. A MUST GO! 439 joo chiat place, s 427652 & here's a selfie of me with my formidable eye bags signing off~ BYE
